The Victorian Skilled Visa Nomination Program uses the Victorian Points Test (VPT) to rank all Registrations of Interest (ROIs) when selecting ROIs for Victorian nomination for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
This ranking is based on a combination of the following seven weighted factors:
- Age,
- English language,
- Years of experience in the nominated occupation,
- Educational qualification,
- Occupation skill level,
- Partner’s skill (if applicable), and
- Annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria (if applicable).
Each factor contributes to an ROI’s VPT total. ROIs are ranked from highest to lowest based on their VPT total.
Note: To be considered for a Victorian skilled visa nomination, you must meet both the Australian Government’s visa eligibility requirements and the Victorian Government’s nomination requirements for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) or the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
Invitation process
Applicants in all eligible occupations can submit an ROI. All ROIs are ranked using the VPT.
There are two ways to be invited through the Victorian Skilled Visa Nomination Program. When you submit an ROI, you are considered under the options below:
1. Most competitive
In each invitation round, ROIs with the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations in the pool at that time are invited.
2. Priority industry
Certain occupations in Victorian industries are also prioritised to address critical skills needs.
In each invitation round, ROIs with the highest VPT totals within each priority industry in the pool at that time are invited.
Information about the priority industries and occupations for the 2026-27 program is available in the program priority industries and occupations section below.
Invitation Rounds
The Victorian Government issues invitations to selected ROIs through regular invitation rounds. In each invitation round ROIs with the highest VPT total at that time are invited.
Invitation outcomes depend on the competitiveness of the ROI pool at the time of the invitation round.
No Fixed Pass Mark
Unlike the Australian Government’s points test (SkillSelect), the VPT does not have a fixed ‘pass mark’. Invitations are issued to ROIs with the highest VPT totals in each invitation round.
Australian Government SkillSelect points
The Australian Government's points test (SkillSelect) is used by the Australian Government to determine eligibility for a skilled visa. The Australian Government requires all applicants to score at least 65 points on the Australian points test.
Note: The VPT is used to assess ROIs for Victorian skilled visa nominations.
Your competitiveness
An applicant's competitiveness depends on their VPT total relative to other applicants and the availability of limited nomination places.
We are therefore not able to provide information about your likelihood of being invited or how your points compare to other applicants .
An invitation to apply for a nomination application or a successful nomination application is not guaranteed.
Personal circumstances
We are unable to prioritise invitations based on personal circumstances such as age or the expiry of a current visa or supporting documents.
Victorian Points Test
Each ROI receives a VPT total. The VPT total is calculated using information from the Australian Government SkillSelect Expression of Interest and the Victorian ROI.
The VPT prioritises younger, highly qualified applicants with higher levels of English language.
